GEELONG'S Daniel Menzel is on track to return from his third knee reconstruction in the VFL this week, just 16 weeks after LARS surgery.

The 21-year-old, who had already had two conventional knee reconstructions, had LARS surgery after injuring his left knee at training just before Christmas.

"I'm hoping to play next week in the VFL,'' Menzel said at the Cat's pre-game function, which broke out in applause.

"Exciting times at the moment. I'm probably 90 per cent there at the moment, we've just got to clear up a few things early next week and we'll make that decision early next week.

"For me, I'm as confident as ever in my knees. The LARS procedure I had actually feels as strong if not stronger than the other two I've had.

"I've done three weeks of full training, I've done a lot of tackling with our assistant coach Nigel Lappin…I haven't felt it at all. Very confident I'll be right to go next week or the week after."
